White Head's Ark

Whitehead's Ark began as Mica Cabildo's research project for a 2020 artist
residency programme at Gasworks London/UK. The initial research was
about British ornithologist John Whitehead-who discovered the Philippine
Eagle and named it after his father-and several bird species he identified
on his Philippine expeditions in 1893-1896. An online art project based on
this initial research was selected for a grant by Prince Claus Fund
(Netherlands) and Goethe-Institut (Germany) through their Open Call 2020:
Cultural and Artistic Responses to Environmental Change.

In this oeuvre, Mica Cabildo is joined by artist Tof Zapanta in lovingly illustrating this precious set of Philippine wildlife yet also provoking the viewer with the question: How have our attitudes changed towards exotic wildlife over the years?
